Geotube®
Municipal Applications
TenCate Geotube® technology dewaters primary, secondary and overflow sludge from the sewage treatment plants’ digesters and lagoons.
TenCate Geotube® dewatering technology dewaters primary, secondary and overflow sludge from the sewage treatment plants’ digesters and lagoons. This municipal dewatering solution is used in water and wastewater treatment applications including lagoons, septic tanks, ponds, impoundments and digester cleanouts. Domestic wastewater is harmful to the environment due to the presence of high oxygen-demanding material, nutrients, suspended solids, pathogenic organisms, organic compounds and other contaminants. Sludge is produced is large amounts in the process of wastewater treatment and requires dewatering prior to disposal.
TenCate Geotube® Dewatering Technology functions as follows:
- Containment of solids in the dewatering unit
- Dewatering drains out water from the dewatering unit before disposal
- Consolidation of sludge over time. Allows further drying of biosolids to take place inside the Geotube® dewatering unit.
The Geotube® Dewatering containers can provide dewatering, containment and consolidation in one operation, with 85% to 90% reduction of BOD in the effluent. Most of the time, the dewatered effluent is clear and safe enough to be returned to the sewage treatment plants.
TenCate Geotube® dewatering technology can be used seasonally, with solids safely stored onsite between uses. It can also be a very effective way of handling septage, either at a private receiving station or a municipal site. TenCate Geotube® dewatering units are available in sizes to fit drying beds. There is also a unit designed to fit in a roll-off box (TenCate Geotube® MDS) for convenience.
Dewatering for Municipal Applications
TenCate Geotube® Dewatering technology has become the method of choice for wastewater treatment facilities around the world. It solves the problems of limited capacity in municipal wastewater treatment plants and is ideal for onsite treatment systems as such as septic tanks where the sludge can be pumped directly into the dewatering unit, often without the need for polymer addition. It is also ideal for onsite dewatering of waste stabilization pond sludge, be it periodic or pond closeout desludging.
Benefits of TenCate Geotube® Dewatering Technology:
- Simple, effective and a complete dewatering solution. Unlike mechanical systems, there are no mechanical or moving parts that can be subject to breakdowns and wear and tear
- No capital investment required which makes the system easy to adopt
- At plants that use drying beds for sludge dewatering, Geotube® Dewatering units can increase the sludge dewatering capacity of existing drying beds many fold
- Able to achieve solids capture in excess of 98%
- Able to achieve very high contaminant capture rates
- The effluent water is filtered water often of a quality that can be reused or returned for processing or to native waterways without additional treatment
- Dramatically reduces odour problems
- Operates relatively noise free, unlike mechanical systems
- Does not require start-up and shut down time
- Very cost effective and saves time
- Reduces carbon footprint
